What is your Alexa looking like?!
This troubles me somewhat, bloggers that blog sooo much, have great content, somewhat good traffic, but their Alexa rank is in the millions. Ouch! I don’t get it! Why is it that if they write so much content and “supposedly” get all the traffic they say to be getting their, it would show on their Alexa Rank, and it’ll be AT LEAST lower than 500,000.As a blogger, I’m learning that Alexa rank matters, as well as subscribers, daily visits, and other numbers matter. Let me say that again NUMBERS MATTER!
I have learned that blog rolling people that have Alexa Rank higher than yours is not good for your blog, since it can mess with your ranking. You want to blog roll people that have lower or about the same Alexa Rank as yours. This will not affect your ranking as much, but it is better than raising it up.
Ok, so what do you have to do to fix your Alexa ranking:
- Go Register your site on Alexa.com and don’t forget to verify your account by placing the code on your blog or emailing a link to your blog email.
- Next, download the Alexa Toolbar for Firefox.
- With this toolbar you can view your own Alexa Rank, and the Alexa Rank of other pages you visit. This will give you an idea on who to blog roll or not.
- Keep track on your Alexa rank throughout time, if you blog often you’ll notice a big change in a matter of a few weeks. Keep Me Posted on how your blog is doing. Your goal should be to get it down to at least 100,000. I’m still working on mine… Almost there.

I keep track of my Alexa number, but I don't really think it matters. It's nice to see it go up, but overall it's really inaccurate. However, I use it as part of a bigger picture. I combine it with my server side stats to track to make sure the numbers of constantly going in an upward direction.
That's a good way of looking at it Mike. I guess looking at all numbers is a good way to keep track to see how your blog is doing. Not just looking at your Alexa number alone, but everything combined like you said.
